About Irish Guitar Encores
The unaccompanied acoustic guitar is not a much-practiced tradition in Irish music, although England's John Renbourn and France's Pierre Bensusan have successfully included Celtic tunes in their solo repertoire. America's McMeen follows closely in the footsteps of his labelmate Renbourn and Bensusan in using unorthodox tunings, treble/bass combinations and a fluid, cyclical style to make 19 of the prettiest melodies in Irish folk music sound fresh again in this new context. McMeen's specialty is his creation of warm, romantic overtones that allow the notes to blend into each other.
