The first of 34 chapters, "He Taught Them in Parables," helps the reader understand what parables are, how they were used, and how they should be interpreted. Chapter 3, "The Kingdom of God Is at Hand," surveys one of the great themes of the parables, understood in the light of the teachings of the whole Bible. Each of the other chapters analyzes an individual parable, identifies its theme, explains it in the light of the language and customs of the ancient world, and clearly interprets its meaning for us today.
